7 nights in Cophagen with your knitting host Edel MacBride! Creating Edel's Exclusive Hilla Design!
'Hilla' by Edel MacBride has been created especially for Knit Copenhagen 2025.
Edel's project has three main colours, combining some mild colorwork on the borders and a central textured section in a solid.
The inspiration comes from the beautiful painting Meeting on the Turret stairs (1864) by Irish artist Frederic William Burton. Edel's first knitwear brochure (1990) had a print of this on the cover, thanks to a license agreement with the National Gallery of Ireland, where the painting is held.
The famous Danish Ballad and its central characters, Hellelil and Hildebrand her guard, are the inspiration for Burton's romantic watercolour. The 'Hilla' by Edel may be made as a cowl or an infinity scarf. Like all Edel projects there is built in design learning and tips on construction and finishing. Unique Aran cabling and studio learnings that evolved over the decades in making at the Edel MacBride design studio.Versions of fisherman rib with and without cables will be explored too.
