Once that’s done you’ll be able to experience the KnittingTours website perfectly.
Studio Donegal is an iconic spinning & hand weaving business in the scenic, Gaeltacht village of Kilcar, Co. Donegal, renowned for hand-woven excellence, producing beautiful timeless Donegal Tweed clothing & accessories.
It was started by Kevin and Wendy Donaghy in 1979 but in recent years they have proudly handed over the reins of Studio Donegal to their son Tristan who continues their work of preserving the traditional indigenous skill of hand weaving in southwest Donegal.
Studio Donegal’s genuine handwoven tweed sells all over the world in exclusive top end craft shops, they have maintained their brand ethos of being the only genuine hand weaving mill in Ireland and that will always be their hallmark, that said, they feel it’s not enough for this generation to simply follow in the footprints of the past they need to find ways to use their traditional skills to create contemporary crafts. They are always looking for new sources of inspiration and are currently having a lot of fun with Rainbows!
Visitors are invited to go through the mill watching the workers as they do their daily tasks, they can see how it all happens here, from blending colours of fleece which they use in their distinctive rainbow blankets, watching the Victorian spinning mule in action which perfectly replicates the process of had spinning, preparing the warp threads for the weavers, watching the weavers skilfully weave their beautiful tweeds or checking into the sewing room to see what unique items of clothing or accessories are being made on the day, the only thing they don’t have on site is their flock of sheep!
The Studio Donegal shop is one like no other, housed in a beautiful art modern building where they showcase their range of tweed clothing, blankets, and accessories. They have a full selection of their knitting wool in the shop and stock a select range of Irish made Knitwear which is primarily made in the local area. They pride themselves on having high quality crafts from the local area in the shop and are delighted to be able to say that everything in the shop is made in Ireland, which is one of the things that make them unique.
