Shetland in the Summer: A Knitter’s Dream!
Shetland has been a knitting paradise for centuries, and in the height of summer, there’s no better time to soak up its long daylight hours, stunning landscapes, and rich textile traditions! This tour takes you from Scotland’s vibrant capital to Shetland’s wild beauty, with world-class instructors ready to share their expertise in Fair Isle, the Shetland Knitting Belt, and Shetland Lace.
Start in Edinburgh with a visit to Dovecot Studio and the Scottish Textiles Showcase, then enjoy a welcome dinner before heading north. On the way to Aberdeen, we’ll stop in Dundee to explore the historic RSS Discovery ship and the V&A Design Gallery before catching the overnight ferry to Shetland.
Once on the islands, it’s four days of pure knitting bliss! Think hands-on workshops, exclusive yarn shopping, farm visits (hello, woolly sheep!), Shetland’s top museums, the ancient Jarlshof ruins, and evening knitting circles. Oh, and don’t forget the puffins!
Heading back south, we’ll visit Lunan Bay’s adorable cashmere goats, explore Glamis Castle, meet skilled kilt makers, and dive into Edinburgh’s knitting scene with Kathy’s Knits and designer Lucy Hague. Wrap it all up with a whisky tasting and a farewell feast at Amber Restaurant—because no Scottish adventure is complete without a dram!
